It’s hard to imagine Law & Order: SVU without Mariska Hargitay. Luckily we won’t have to … at least for one more season. According to Hypable, Mariska has signed on for one more year, but with a much smaller role in Season 13, and with plans to phase out even more. Her character, Olivia, will soon get promoted and become a supervisor. The show is now looking for a new female lead to replace her. Rumor has Jennifer Love Hewitt as the leading contender. She did a great job guest-starring in Season 12 — I wonder if they’ have her back as the same character she played (a repeat victim of a serial rapist) or create a new police-detective character for her?

24 May, 2011 at 5:11 pmThey had Diane Neal go from being on trial for raping a man (and also being into autoerotic asphyxiation; episode 3.10) to being the ADA that replaced Cabot with no explanation – so why not have JLoHew come in as a detective with no attention to the fact that she previously played a victim.

I too am worried about the change of cast members and I’m wondering (praying actually) that they’ll bring Diane Neal back as Casey Novak. My question is in real life, given her Brady violation, would she get her license back and get rehired by the very District Attorney’s office she was forced to leave? I thought she provided the most powerful performance on SVU as a ADA with a gravitas unchallenged ever since by any of the replacements. It was great to see her in an episode this past season. I just hope it’s a harbinger of things to come. But I’m wondering about the real life component to it.
