I’ve always loved TV crime shows – the drama! the issues! the tear-jerking speeches! Law & Order was part of what inspired me to go to law school and become a prosecutor. What a mistake that was!
Don’t get me wrong, I love being a prosecutor. I specialize in fighting sex crimes, domestic violence, and crimes against children. It’s a fascinating, fast-paced, and rewarding job. But now when I relax in front of the TV, only half my mind is enjoying the story. The other half wants to stand up and shout, “Objection!”
Because, face it, no real woman prosecutor would wear the shoes that ADA Alexandra Cabot does on SVU.
This season, I’ll be watching Law & Order: SVU. Watch with me! After each episode, we’ll talk about the show: what was real, what would never happen. I’ll share my real-prosecutor perspective and answer your questions.
Sometimes, it’ll be like learning that there’s no Santa Claus – for example, did you know that cops almost never can get a fingerprint off a gun? Not gonna catch the killer that way, sorry. But I hope that learning about what really happens and what doesn’t – how the criminal justice system works, and how it fails – will be part of the fun.
The premier of next season’s SVU will be September 22. I’m excited! The day after the premier, tune in here for a Prime-Time Crime Review!

14 October, 2010 at 8:01 pmjust found your blog through an ad on Shelf Awareness for your book. Darn, now I am going to have to read that too. Don’t you know how many books I have in my TBR pile?…lol
The shoes these female cops and ADAs on TV wear just me nuts! We won’t even get started on the clothes…

22 October, 2010 at 5:49 pmI love Law & Order, every version of it – the original, CI, SVU, and now LA. But, like you, I wanna yell, “Objection! Hearsay!” or how about “Leading The Witness!”
And, in my part of the world, I NEVER get to interrupt the witness in the middle of his answer, unless I want a court reporter AND a judge mad at me, and the judge telling me to let the witness to finish his answer.
Of course, there is No WAY any of the female leads would last 30 minutes in court in those shoes! And, I still don’t understand how anyone thinks Olivia can walk the halls, much less, run, and take somebody down, in those boots she wears, either.
But, I love ’em all anyway. And now that I’ve just found your blog, I definitely have to catch up on the SVU episodes I’ve got on the DVR, and read your take on them.
Plus, you’ve given me an idea – maybe I should start blogging about the new LA version. Hmmm…..
Thanks for sharing.
