This event raises money for The Reading Connection, an organization that helps at-risk kids by making reading a part of their lives. TRC provides volunteers to read to children in homeless shelters and low-income community centers, invites kids who are transitioning out of homeless programs to join their book club which provides them free books, trains parents on how to read with their children, and trains social workers on how to incorporate reading into their programs. How fun – my favorite tv crime show was Hill Street Blues. Fabulous show! If for some reason my name is drawn, please donate this fabulous prize to your local Make-A-Wish foundation to be given to a derving member. My sincere thanks for your time!
Thanks for being the first to respond, Diana! Hope all is going well with your writing.
“Law of Attraction,” of course!
Thanks, Bob!
Favorite crime show: Big Love
Not a crime show, you say? Polygamy is still a crime in the USA, isn’t it?
Well even if I don’t win, it was worth visiting, just for the Vodka and Beer Bong video – it’s good to keep up with what our kids are doing!
Love the Big Love comment. So true.
My favorite tv crime show is “Castle” and for when I was in a gritty mood “The Wire” – ahh, Baltimore. Favorite local authors are Laura Lippman and George Pelecanos.
Yes, I’m a big fan of Lippman and Pelecanos, too.
Hi Allison – TV show is NCIS, Book, Law of Attraction.
Thanks, Robin!!
What a great cause.
I have to say that I LOVE the writing on NCIS.
Tana French “Faithful Place”
Kate Atkinson “Case Histories”
Oh, I’ll play! I love the original Law and Order, and am a bit of a Bones gal now 🙂 Love Patterson’s Alex Cross books, and am about to dive in to Diane Mott Davidson’s series.
Wonderful cause!
Kim
I just finished Tana French’s second book, The Likeness and loved, loved it! I can’t wait to read her 3rd. Also, will read yours soon! Question for you, would you participate in a local book club? Thanks! Mary Beth
Sounds like I’ll have to check out The Likeness. I do occasionally do local book clubs (assuming I can find child care!). Is your club interested? Shoot me an email at allison@allisonleotta.com with the details.
This is such a great idea for a great cause! I have to go old school with my choice for favorite crime novel: In Cold Blood. Sure it’s nonfiction but my God it’s fabulous. If I go fiction today I’ll say Mystic River by Dennis Lehane, but I’m with Mary Beth on Tana French.’m reading Faithful Place now and the woman is amazing.
In Cold Blood is phenomenal.
I like Without a Trace, and love the Miss Marple shows on Masterpiece Mystery. She cracks me up – reminds me of an old female Baretta. Thanks for informing us about the charity. I will look them up.
Great cause!
TV: The Wire
Book: Pale Fire
My favorite crime TV show is Dragnet (hope it didn’t have to be a current one….). Favorite book: Law of Attraction (do I get extra brownie points?). 🙂
Major brownie points. 🙂
Hi Ali! I’m obsessed with “Dexter.” The serial killer vein aside, the crime solving plots are really interesting!
Plus you know I love Law of Attraction!
Thanks, Ginger! I’ve been meaning to check out Dexter.
L & O, forever and always.
Hi Marsea! I know, I was addicted to L&O for a while.
I don’t read many crime-themed books but In Cold Blood stands out as an amazing piece of literature with crime at its core. Good work with the ReadingConnection- the kids need it!
4th grader reading teacher- DC Prep
Thanks for your work with the 4th graders! Not always easy, but incredibly important work.
Crime Show: 21 Jump Street (Yes, I was 20-something in the 80s!)
Novel: Law of Attraction (Love all the local references!)
Thanks, Libby! 🙂
This sounds great! I loved “Law of Attraction”, of course! My favorite crime show has always been the original “Law and Order”. I sat through many marathons….
Me too. Thanks, Barb!
The most memorable ones have been Ally McBeal and LA Law. I haven’t watched anything since :-(.
You clearly need to do more couch potatoing. Thanks for stopping by the blog, Jason!
I LOVE Dexter (someone else mentioned that one)! And, of course, Law and Order, as always. Great blog!
Crime show – CSI (the original) although I miss Grisham. Favorite crime novel – hello – Law of Attraction!!
Thanks, Kristen! Hope you and the family are doing great. Wonderful pics on your blog.
I love ‘cold case’. all the casts and plots.
What a cool idea Al!!
I have watched every season, every episode, every second of Dexter and still can’t get enough! I also feel the same way about Law of Attraction!!
Don’t know if they qualify, but I’m addicted to WHITE COLLARE and BURN NOTICE on the USA Network.
The guy from Burn Notice is cute.
I love the Porfiry Petrovich Rostnikov novels by Stuart Kaminsky. Great history, fascinating characters. And I will always love Ally McBeal. It’s amazing to see how short those skirts actually were!
Ha!
Favorite show: The Good Wife. And Law & Order SVU. They just had a marathon a couple of weekends ago.
Book: Law of Attraction, of course! And anything by Sara Paretsky.
You’re so sweet, Sandy. Thank you!
And the winner is . . . Marsea Nelson. (My husband drew her name out of a hat.) Congratulations, Marsea! I hope you have a great time.
Thanks to everyone who commented. It was really fun for me to hear your favorite crime books and TV shows. There are definitely a few I’ll have to check out!
